Celebrate Día de los Muertos With a Free Festival in Henderson
One of the Tri-State's most colorful fall celebrations is returning to downtown Henderson, Kentucky, and everyone is invited.
Día de los Muertos in Henderson returns to historic Central Park on Saturday, October 31, from 4 to 7 p.m. for an evening filled with music, dancing, food, and traditions honoring loved ones who have died.
Best of all, admission is completely free.
What Is Día de los Muertos?
Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican tradition centered on remembering and celebrating family members and loved ones who have passed away.
Despite its skulls, skeleton imagery, and proximity to Halloween on the calendar, Día de los Muertos isn't a Mexican version of Halloween. At its heart, it's about remembrance, family, and keeping the memories of loved ones alive.
That's what makes Henderson's celebration particularly special. It's an opportunity for our area's Latino community to share those traditions while inviting the entire community to experience them.
Music, Dancing, and a Candlelight Procession
The family-friendly celebration will feature live mariachi music and traditional dancers, along with face painting and crafts.
Kids can also take part in a children's parade.
One of the most meaningful parts of the evening will come with a candlelight procession honoring loved ones who have passed away, bringing the remembrance at the heart of Día de los Muertos into the community celebration.
Of course, there will be plenty to eat and drink, too. Food trucks and a beer garden are also planned for the evening.
