Illinois Residents Need to Stock Up on White Wine Vinegar Right Now
Winters in the Midwest can be harsh and brutal and that's just to us.
What about the other stuff that makes contact with the cold wet snow and ice?
What about our clothes? They are the first thing that gets damaged when dealing with winter weather and there's not much we can do.
The worst part is it is usually our shoes that take the biggest beating.
I consider myself a bit of a shoe connoisseur but not in that "I have rows of shoes in boxes and crates" kind of way. I like nice shoes and I do my absolute best to take care of them so I would hate to see my Veja's or Lacoste kicks get ruined.
When I saw this on Timeout I was immediately relieved. It's a way to get rid of salt stains from your shoes.
They say to get yourself some white wine vinegar:
If you find your kicks covered in a film of white salt residue, whip out a bottle of white wine vinegar and a cotton towel. Dilute the vinegar in some water and gently apply to your tainted shoes with the towel. Let those suckers dry naturally and they'll look good as new. It's also worth investing in some leather shoe protecter in winter—it could save you a lot of hassle down the road.
You could also avoid all the "hassle" and just relocate but we know that that's not going to happen.
At least we know we can keep our shoes clean.
