A major actor left Hollywood for a quiet life in Indiana, and he says that he feels most comfortable in the Hoosier State.

Indiana is home to some pretty big names in the world of entertainment. Likewise, there have been a few entertainers who have fallen in love with folks from the Hoosier State. That has led to frequent visits to Indiana that cause a little bit of attention because it's not every day that you see a major star in Hollywood in Indiana. One example is an actor with many notable roles who fell in love with a Hoosier, and quietly left Hollywood for a more comfortable life right here in Indiana.

A Major Actor Left Hollywood for Indiana

Jesse Eisenberg is an actor who has appeared in many big Hollywood blockbusters such as The Social Network, Zombieland, Batman v Superman, Now You See Me, and the list goes on. Outside of those movies, Eisenberg has generally been a pretty private person, but still ha has been in hit movie after hit movie. So, you'd think he'd be like all of the other actors who have planted their roots in Los Angeles. However, it was surprising to me to find out that he left Hollywood and has lived in Indiana for a decade on and off.

Why Indiana of All Places?

According to a recent interview with CBS News, Eisenberg had mentioned that he's been living in Indiana on and off for the past ten years. Not only that, but he says that Indiana is where he feels the most comfortable. In the interview, he said that he and his wife Anna Strout moved back to the Hoosier State—where Strout is originally from—in 2020 to help volunteer at her mom’s domestic shelter in Bloomington.

"During the pandemic, there was no acting work, obviously," Eisenberg said. "And so I was just volunteering every day at the shelter." The Zombieland actor said that working at the shelter was "the happiest time of my life." Eisenberg also noted that his life in Indiana also affords him more time to concentrate on writing screenplays, rather than competing for acting gigs.

It was really interesting to hear about how much he enjoys life in the Hoosier State in the interview. Being a lifelong Hooiser, the life that we are surrounded by just seems normal. We tend to dream about living in other places with more to do, like Los Angeles. To hear about someone who left that world to live in Indiana, it gives me a new perspective of how good our state can be.

There are a bunch of famous folks that everyone knows were born in Indiana, but there are even more that you didn't know about. Most of this list is arranged in alphabetical order, except for the handful of celebrities born in our neck of the woods here in southern Indiana. I gotta give them a little preferential treatment.
