Few things are better than sitting around a fire with friends or family, having a few drinks, and catching up on what's going on in everyone's lives. For most of us who have kept our distance from everyone over the past year because of COVID, there's no doubt there will be quite a bit to catch up on as we get closer and closer to putting the pandemic behind us. Of course, it's hard to sit around a camp or bonfire if you don't have any wood to burn. Fortunately, Harmonie State Park in New Harmony, Indiana is giving you the chance to stock up through the sale of firewood cutting permits.

The permits will be available from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. May 3rd through 21st at the park's office for $10 each. That price will cover the cost of one truckload of wood. You're welcome to take more than that however, each load will require a separate $10 permit.

Once you've obtained a permit, it doesn't mean you can hack down any tree in the park you want. Only trees that have already been downed by the park will be available for cutting. In this case, the trees were cut down to make room for improvements being made to the park's wastewater treatment plant and Little Harmonie Pond, according to a press release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The release also stated those trees will be available for cutting from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily at Sweetgum Grove, and on weekdays at the campground visitor lot. Cutting will not be allowed on weekends at the campground visitor lot.

In addition to the permit, you'll also need to bring your own cutting tool to get however much wood you need.
