Could the seventh installment of the "Scream" franchise be in the Hoosier State? It looks like it!

The "Scream" movies are some of my favorite horror movies. I love the classic who-done-it kind of mystery behind these movies. The first "Scream" came out in 1996 and became quite the phenomenon in the horror movie game. Since then, there have been a total of six installments to the franchise. These movies follow the Ghostface masked killer who targets Sydney Prescott and her friends by using scary movies as part of a deadly game. The last two movies shifted away from Sydney to a new group of characters that are tied to the original murders. In fact, due to some pay disputes, Neve Campbell, who plays Sydney, was not featured at all in the sixth film. That is all about to change, as Neve will be returning as Sydney in the seventh installment of the franchise next year.

The majority of the "Scream" movies take place in the fictional town of Woodsboro, California. "Scream 2" takes place while Sydney is at Windsor College, a fictional college rumored to be in Ohio, "Scream 3" takes place in Los Angeles, and "Scream 6" is set in New York City. Now, it looks like the newest film will be set outside of Woodsboro, and in our neck of the woods, Indiana.

"Scream 7" Set in Indiana?

Plot details are being kept under wraps for good reason. Nobody wants this movie spoiled ahead of time. One thing we do know is that the latest installment in the slasher saga is expected to focus on Sidney and her family in the town of Pine Grove, Indiana. That's right, Ghostface is coming to Indiana...kind of.

Pine Grove is a fictitious town in Indiana. Sydney and her family have moved away from California and Woodsboro, which makes sense given the fact that all of these horrific things happened to her there. So naturally, she'd want to move someplace far away that's safe and quiet. You know, like Indiana. While the movie is set in Indiana, it isn't actually filmed here. Filming is taking place right now in the Atlanta area. You can take a look at some of the set that features Pine Grove, Indiana, in the video below.

Again, we don't know much about the plot of the film. but we do know that there will be some familiar faces returning in "Scream 7." Some of which I am beyond curious how they tie into the plot, given that they are already dead in the "Scream" universe. Here's what we know so far.

I'm really looking forward to the newest installment, especially since it's going to be taking place in Indiana, so to speak. What about you? Are you ready to see "Scream 7" when it hits theaters on February 27th, 2026?

16 Indiana Towns with Dirty-Sounding Names

A majority of these towns were given their names in the mid-to-late 1800s as settlers making their way across the country found unclaimed plots of land and decided to make them their own. While I imagine they thought the names they came up with were innocent, and perhaps a tribute to something in their lives, pop culture has warped our minds to the point since then that we can't help but think of something about the town that was never intended by its founders. Take a look at this list. I guarantee there's at least one name that will make you chuckle.
