Hosting a cookout just got easier with this simple, but genius onion slicing hack.

Life Hacks

Every Friday we have this fun little email feature at our company where we share different life hacks.  This week I found one that I had to share, and it's perfect for cookout season. After sending this video to my coworkers who all agreed it was so simple but genius, I had to share it here.

Cookout Season

Warm weather is here, and whether you're hosting a cookout for Memorial Day weekend, Fourth of July weekend, or just because you feel like hosting a cookout, you know it can be quite the undertaking. So anyway to make hosting a cookout a little easier, I'm all for it.  You can quickly slice an onion for this hack, and it only takes two tools.  For this hack you'll need a fork or a knife, and a potato peeler.

Genius Onion Peeling

This will make for a tearless onion-cutting experience because of how quickly it makes the process.  You use the fork or knife to hold the onion still, and then just go over the onion with a potato peeler.  This simple trick will give you perfectly thin sliced onions that are ready to go into your dish or onto your burger. Check out the video below to see how its done.

Now the question I see most on this hack is "Why not use a mandolin?"  And while I agree mandolins can be very handy, it can also be tedious to set up a mandolin, and then cleaning a mandolin is a task in itself.  So unless you're slicing multiple items, to me it's not worth breaking out the mandolin for one onion, but that's just me. You do you.
