Garth-Quake in Louisiana

I have felt one earthquake in my time here on Earth, and I should have felt two...but I was asleep.

I was a child playing with friends in our front yard when I felt the earth move under my feet (hat tip to Carole King). I was a grown man when I slept right through one that registered greater than 5 on the Richter scale. That was back in the late 2000s.

I was doing a live broadcast at the grand re-opening of Roberts Stadium on the same day in 1990--December 3rd--that Iben Browning predicted a massive earthquake along the New Madrid fault would all but wipe us out. SPOILER ALERT: Didn't happen.

Good thing, too, since I was UNDER Roberts Stadium in the backstage area.

But I'm gathering that I WOULD have experienced a quake Saturday night, April 30th, had I been near Tiger Stadium on LSU's campus in Baton Rouge.

Naturally, the country superstar performed "Callin' Baton Rouge''--one of my personal favorites; I would have been losing my mind right along with the rest of the fans--and during that performance, a quick-thinking professor recorded activity on a seismograph he'd set up just for that concert.

His instincts were correct. The raucous fans made the earth move...right under their feet.

WDSU-New Orleans says this sort of thing hasn't happened since a 1988 LSU-Alabama game. THAT is completely understandable.

And, honestly, the Garth-quake is, too.

THE 'GARTH-QUAKE' SHOULD SURPRISE NO ONE

The first time I saw Garth Brooks in concert was in 1992 at Freedom Hall. It was exciting and the crowd was wild, yes, but peak "Garth fever" really didn't settle in for another year. And by the time he got to Roberts Stadium in 1994, it had graduated into a PHENOMENON.

My sister and I were sitting there watching the excitement roll across the sold-out arena. It was palpable and unlike anything I'd ever seen or felt. And when he came out on stage, people were screaming and rushing the stage just to touch him. No one was hurt, thankfully.

Yes, I've seen what Garth can do to a crowd, and you probably have, too. And now I've what he can do to the actual EARTH.

Callin' Baton Rouge? Someone organize a seance and call Iben Browning and tell him we found his earthquake.

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood's former beachside house in Malibu offered a gorgeous vacation paradise for the country music power couple to relax.

Brooks and Yearwood bought their 4-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom, 4,200-square-foot house in Malibu for slightly less than $5 million in June of 2008. The house itself is fairly modest, but very well-appointed, featuring an open floor plan.

The living room boasts a corner fireplace and multiple sets of French doors that open to the backyard. The kitchen includes marble countertops, while skylights offer plenty of natural California sunlight. The den features floor-to-ceiling bookshelves on either side of a fireplace of white brick.

The backyard is spectacular, featuring a loggia, an outdoor fireplace, a half-court basketball court and elaborate landscaping. The house provides direct access to the world-famous Malibu beach via a set of steps.

The couple sold the house in Malibu in late 2016 for $7 million.
