Garth Brooks Admits to Lip Syncing His 2017 CMA Awards Performance
Newly crowned 2017 CMA Entertainer of the Year Garth Brooks has admitted to lip syncing his performance of "Ask Me How I Know" during the ceremony. The country star says that he was feeleing a little under the weather at Wednesday night's (Nov. 8) 51st annual Country Music Association Awards.
After accepting his Entertainer of the Year trophy for the second year in a row, Brooks told reporters in the CMA Awards press room that he'd made a "game-time call" to either lip sync his newest single "Ask Me How I Know" or sing along with a pre-recorded track.
"We decided to lip-sync it because my voice just isn't going anywhere," he said. "And we wanted to represent country music the best we can."
According to Brooks, the decision came because he is both sick and has been performing a grueling schedule of shows. As the Tennessean notes, Brooks has played 12 shows in the last 10 days, including a five-show run this past weekend. No wonder his vocal cords are tired!
Fortunately, Brooks should get a little bit of time to rest and recover: He's taking most of November off from his World Tour, which is set to resume on Dec. 1 in Newark, N.J.
