There are a couple of days where you don't have to have a Kentucky fishing license to fish in the Commonwealth this June.

As you know, we have so many places in the Bluegrass State where you can cast a line out on the water and enjoy a day full of fishing. It's one of my favorite pastimes. The weather is nice (when it isn't raining) and it's the perfect time of year to hit up the lake.  Whether it is with friends, family, or just by yourself, a day on the lake is much better than a day at work, right?

Fishing is something that the whole family can enjoy together, but you must purchase your fishing license first. That being said, there are a few exceptions to that law in Kentucky. Each year, the state of Kentucky (and others) set aside a few days in the year when a license is not required. These days are known as "Free Fishing Days".

Kentucky's 2024 Free Fishing Days

Gather the family and fish for free in Kentucky the first weekend in June. The free fishing weekend is June 1st and 2nd. It’s an annual celebration that allows anyone to fish without a license or permit during the two days. While licenses and permits are free this weekend, you still must follow the rules on the size and number of fish that you can keep. You’ll find all the regulations in the online fishing and boating guide.

According to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, there are several communities around the state that offer special free fishing events with kids in mind on Saturday, June 1st. You can learn more about those by clicking here. Whether you are a Kentucky resident or visiting from out of state, Kentucky's Free Fishing Weekend is open to all. It's a great time to grab a fishing pole and enjoy spending time with family and friends at the state's beautiful lakes, streams, and rivers.
