Frankie Ballard Opens Up About What Being ‘Young and Crazy’ Really Means
Frankie Ballard's "Young and Crazy" is about living life to the fullest and taking advantage of situations — even if sometimes, you get hurt. Recently, the singer opened up to Taste of Country Nights host Sam Alex about where the tune came from.
Ballard says he has a hard time trusting people that give advice based on no life experience. It's obvious that living well is really important to the singer, so he truly believes in what "Young and Crazy" stands for.
“I’ve always had a hard time taking advice from people who I don’t feel like it’s coming from a place of real experience," he says. "That’s what this song is about."
Ballard's high-energy shows include him hanging his feet off the stage and jumping around a lot. Sometimes, this results in injury but, to the singer, it's all worth it. These are the stories he'll tell his kids one day.
"[The song is] about having some stories like this to tell your kids, like, ‘Hey, you probably shouldn’t jump off the stage because I did one time and got messed up.’ But that’s all part of being young, is living your life and that’s what this song is about," Ballard shares. "It’s a message that says, ‘Get out there and make some life. Make some experiences. You might get a little beat up along the way but it’ll give you some good stories.’”
Ballard's most recent life experiences have included a chance to play on Jimmy Kimmel Live, which is a sizable audience for the singer. He didn't have a big interaction with the late night host, but he did get to exchange pleasantries, saying Kimmel "seems like a really sweet guy."
“Usually I have to go all over the country to get in front of that many eyeballs and ears, and it was so cool to be on there," Ballard says. "Jimmy was really sweet and everybody was really laid-back. It was just a fun, fun show to do.”
