One of my most craved comfort foods is a classic cheeseburger, and I definitely have my picks for the best places to get one. That said, this type of food has been making its way less and less into my diet in recent months. Despite being absolutely delicious, fast food cheeseburgers are extremely high in fat and calories, which is not something my current diet is lacking by any stretch.
While searching for more "health-conscious" options on the go, I came across an article that claims one fast food restaurant now has the healthiest cheeseburger in America. It's not at all one I would have thought would fall under any kind of category pertaining to health, yet here we are. But before we take a look at the healthiest burger in America, let's check on the least healthy burger in the fast food marketplace.
Unhealthiest Fast Food Burger in the U.S.
The telehealth platform known as PlushCare recently examined 16 popular American fast food restaurants to find the unhealthiest burgers in America. Their results were compiled by analyzing nutritional information, such as the amount of energy (kJ), saturated fat (g), total sugar (g), and sodium (mg). According to PlushCare, the most unhealthy fast food burger comes from Five Guys.
Honestly, this news doesn’t surprise me at all, given the amount of grease-soaked to-go bags you see coming out of the restaurant. PlushCare notes that Five Guys not only has the unhealthiest burgers but also the unhealthiest fries. Just behind Five Guys were Whataburger, Smashburger, Carl’s Jr. (Hardee’s), and Sonic, which rounded out the top five unhealthiest burger options in America.
Healthiest Fast Food Burger in the U.S.
When it comes to the healthiest burger in this ranking, I think it's important to note a couple of things. This burger isn't necessarily healthy; rather, it's just the least unhealthy option in the fast food world. Additionally, everyone has different dietary requirements, so just because this is the least unhealthy burger listed, I wouldn't go running to the drive-thru with a large order. That said, without further ado, the "healthiest" burger on PlushCare's list is none other than Culver's.
For a place that's known for something called a "ButterBurger," along with their famous cheese curds and frozen custard, I wouldn't have expected this to be the lesser of all burger evils. What's even more surprising is that McDonald's is directly behind Culver's in terms of the least unhealthy fast food burger in the U.S. You can see PlushCare's complete ranking below.
