Evansville Non-Profit Logan’s Promise Offering Free Safe Rides Home Labor Day Weekend
Labor Day Weekend is here, marking the unofficial end of summer, meaning one last chance to host a cookout, head out on the boat before shutting it down for the season, or whatever your favorite summer activity happens to be before the weather starts to cool and everyone turns their attention to pumpkin spice everything. Whatever those plans happen to be, I'll assume a few "adult beverages" will be involved. If that's the case, make sure you have a plan to get home safely when the party is over. There's no sense in ruining an awesome time by getting behind the wheel. To help make that plan way easier, Logan's Promise is once again teaming up with ride-share service, Lyft, and Working Distributors to offer free safe rides home for residents of Vanderburgh, Posey, Warrick, and Gibson Counties.
The Mission of Logan's Promise
Logan's Promise was founded by Charles Brown after his son, Logan, a student at Reitz High School at the time, was killed in March of 2015 after a drunk driver going the wrong way on University Parkway near USI crashed into the car he was riding in with friends. Determined to do everything he could to prevent other friends, families, and communities from having to suffer through the same type of tragedy, Charles formed Logan's Promise to share the pain drinking and driving can inflict on not just the victim, but those close to them as well.
Logan's Promise Safe Ride Program
In addition to sharing stories from those who have been impacted by a drunk driver, Charles decided the best way to keep people from getting behind the wheel after drinking was to offer an alternative way to get home safely. Through a partnership with Lyft and local businesses, the Safe Ride Program is made available periodically throughout the year (usually around holidays or large community events where drinking is likely to occur) to residents of Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey, and Gibson Counties.
2023 Labor Day Safe Rides
To take advantage of the offer, simply order a ride through Lyft and use the promo code, SAFEDAY2023, and Logan's Promise will cover the cost of your ride home up to $25. If the price of your ride exceeds that amount, all you'll have to pay is the difference. And honestly, if the ride costs $30 or $40, putting you on the hook for only $10 or $20, that's WAY cheaper than the costs you could rack up if you were to get pulled over, or something worse, because you decided to drive when you shouldn't have.
It's important to note, the offer will only be available from 8:00 PM until 3:00 AM each night on Friday, September 1st, Saturday, September 2nd, Sunday, September 3rd, and of course, Labor Day, Monday, September 4th, and will only take you home. It will not take you to the next bar or party. One more thing to keep in mind, Lyft drivers are essentially independent contractors, so remember to throw them a couple of bucks as a way to say thanks for getting you home safely.
