Okay, I don't know what the deal is with cars crashing into buildings and houses around Evansville, but there's definitely been an influx of that lately.

Why is the Peephole Bar & Grill Closed?

On Thursday, February 16, 2023, around 2:30 PM, a driver got distracted and drove right smack into the front door of the Peephole Bar & Grill in Downtown Evansville, Indiana. The locally owned spot is now closed until the damage can be assessed, cleaned up, and rebuilt. As you can see from some the photos, the damage is way more than just the front door.

We will be closed until further notice due to a vehicle crashing through our front wall minutes ago.
Most fortunately, all employees report no major injuries, no word on the driver.
Updates will be provided as information is available.

Yes, the car did end up in the kitchen.

Lost Hours Add Up

Normally, the Peephole is open seven days a week from 4:00 PM - 3:00 AM. So, obviously, the owner is losing profits, and the employees are out of a paycheck too.

See How Downtown Evansville Has Changed Over the Years

I find looking back on the way things used to be fascinating. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I'm living through the current time period. The conveniences of answering any question we have in seconds, or ordering practically anything we want or need and having it delivered to our doorstep is pretty sweet. But, there is something fun about seeing how things around us have evolved. As an Evansville native, and spending quite a bit of my time in downtown Evansville (that's where the station is located), I've always appreciated the older architecture of the buildings around the area. So, I dug into the Willard Library Archives to see how a few of those areas look now compared to then. Some have changed a little, others quite a bit, and a few don't even exist any more. Take a look.
