Reitz Freshman Was Doing God's Work

On November 16, Reitz High School freshman Alex Hessler was involved in a car accident that took his life. A tragedy, no matter how you look at it, the freshman football player was doing God's work before he was called home that fateful evening. Alex and a group of his peers had just started a young men's bible study. The group had already grown to 51 members, and continues to grow today in Alex's memory. In fact, the group decided to name the gathering after Alex to commemorate him. “Nothing we’ve done in the month, two months, up to a year, would really be possible without him,” said Neil Dillman, Alex’s friend and another leader of the bible study group. “If it wasn’t for Alex, I probably wouldn’t be where I’m at right now. He led me to the Lord. Him and Neil especially. They led me to the lord and they inspired me to get closer with him and reconnect with him. Alex saved me,” Sargent said.

Donate To Help Build a Playground in Alex's Memory

A family friend of the Hessler's, Ashley Gray, has started a GoFundMe page to raise funds to build a playground. A note from the Hessler family on the GoFundMe page says this:

“We as a family, are asking for donations in lieu of flowers, In Memory of Alex Hessler, go to Cornerstone Church in Evansville, Indiana for a playground fund.”
It's impossible to find words during a tragic event such as this, but I can't think of a better way to commemorate a soul full of love, laughter, kindness, and generosity than to build a playground. To donate or for more information, check out the GoFundMe page.
