‘Dodgeball 2′ With Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn Is Moving Forward
'Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story' was a pretty funny movie that was a surprise hit in 2004. It pitted Vince Vaughn and his gang of outsiders against Ben Stiller and his corporate stooges in a winner-takes-all game of dodgeball. When a film does as well as 'Dodgeball' did (it made over $100 million at the box office), a sequel is practically guaranteed, and though it took a decade, it looks like they're finally getting around to it.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that screenwriter Clay Tarver has been tapped to write the sequel, which will focus on Vaughn and Stiller's characters teaming up to go up against an even bigger threat. This would probably mean that Stiller's character (who ends in the film in a fat suit) will either lose weight in a montage, or has returned to fighting shape.
Tarver's credited on the 2001's movie 'Joyride,' but like a lot of hot screenwriters, he's done uncredited work and has a number of films in the pipeline. If the film is good, it would be a pleasant surprise as the majority of sports sequels are not very good. That is to say, there aren't many champions of 'The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training,' or 'Major League II.'
