As a child of the 90's, I can remember watching The Lion King when it came out in theaters. I was mesmerized. Little did I know, it would become one of the most beloved Disney movies of all time.

The Lion King

Squeal after squeal, nothing ever topped the first Lion King. It's a film that stands the test of time for several reasons. The story combined with the catchy music was unmatched. What kid didn't sing "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" or "Hakuna Matata"?  Yesterday, social media blew up with news of the return of The Lion King....but not the Lion King that we all know and love as kids.

This film would be a live action version of The Lion King. Personally, I could barely keep my life together when Mufasa died in the animated version....I cannot imagine what this will do to me...

Disney confirmed the news in a press release,  they are “putting a new reimagining of The Lion King on the fast track to production.”  Disney has created a trend, as of late, of live-action remakes of Disney classics including MaleficentCinderella, the upcoming Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book. Speaking of The Jungle Book, the director of the 2016 blockbuster is set to direct the new Lion King film.

Since the announcement was made, there have been several questions regarding the live-action Lion King. The thing that I am curious about is if this version will be closer to the cartoon or to the Broadway musical.  Also, while The Jungle Book had a few human characters, most notably “man-cub” Mowgli, The Lion King has none. To my knowledge, there hasn't been a live-action movie with no live-action people in it before. That will be interesting to see. The film was just announced so, there’s no release date or further details for The Lion King. One thing is for sure, if this movie is made right, you better bring some tissues for this one!

Also, I noticed a "teaser trailer" floating around on social media for The Lion King. As this film was just announced, let me be the one to break your heart by saying that this trailer is FAKE!
