Beginning April 2nd, expect to encounter detours if you use Riverside Drive and/or Veterans Memorial Parkway as part of your daily commute. Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility made the announcement last week. The closures come as crews will be working on critical repairs to the city's water transmission lines. According to Evansvillegov.org, the repairs are crucial to prevent "catastrophic failure and avoid an emergency water situation." The closure will create a detour that will utilize Cherry Street, SE 2nd Street and Adams Avenue/Shawnee Drive. Obviously, if this is a route that you travel often, you know what kind of delays and headaches a detour like this can cause. Plan now to allow yourself extra time or find an alternate route.
