In mid October it was announced that Rascal Flatts would be the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry which is a much deserved honor for Gary, Jay and Joe Don. There was a little backlash after the announcement from people who felt Rascal Flatts is more of a 'Boy Band' and pop leaning which could not be futher from the truth. One of the things that makes Country Music so great is the constant evolution of the music, the styles and the artists themselves. Hank Williams, Garth Brooks, Conway Twitty, Buck Owens, Toby Keith, Alabama and Waylon Jennings were all looked at a little funny when they got started.

The fact is, Rascal Flatts has been making great music for more than 10 years, they have sold millions of CD's and have been playing to sellout crowds for years. They also helped bring new fans to the format which is a real challenge and when it happens, everybody benefits. Rascal Flatts has earned their place in Country Music and I for one think their induction to the Opry is a little overdue. Congratulations guys, we're proud of you and thanks for everything you do on and off the stage. To show you what kind of musicians the guys are, Jay and Joe Don in particular, watch the video below which was as an impromptu guitar pull during the rehearsal for their appearance on the Opry that night...pretty darn good if you ask me.
