Another Groundhog Day and Another Six Weeks of Winter According to Punxsutawney Phil
Today is Groundhog Day and all eyes were on Punxsutawney, PA and a tiny hill called Gobbler's Knob this morning. That is where Punxsutawney Phil, the weather prognosticating groundhog, tells us whether we are in for an early spring or six more weeks of winter. The answer is......
Phil saw his shadow and according to legend, that means six more weeks of winter!
Phil has seen his shadow 99 times since 1886 according to the Associated Press and has not seen his shadow only 16 times. Even though Phil gets all the credit, what actually occurs at Gobbler's Knob is decided by the Groundhog Club's 15 member inner circle in advance of Phil being pulled out.
Some meteorologists take great exception to this annual event...the very idea that a giant rodent can predict the weather is ridiculous. Some view the day as something fun and traditional that doesn't really mean anything at all beyond the revenue generated in the small Pennsylvania town.
