On Monday I had a huge scare, that I have trouble talking about without tearing up.  Some people they may think “well you’re crazy because it’s just a dog” but to a lot of people, dogs aren’t just a pet, they become valued members of the family.  I’m lucky to have two very special pups that I love the crap out of. On Monday towards the end of my show I got a call from my mom that sent me into a panic.

While in the studio I got a call from my mom, she was sobbing.  “Bailey fell in the back yard and she can’t get up, I tried, but I can’t get her up, I called our neighbor he is coming to pick her up and we are going to the vet.”  Thank goodness we have the worlds greatest vet, and he stayed late to see Bailey.  I flew across town to the vet.  I was convinced that I’d be saying goodbye to my best friend of the last 10 years.   Talk about the longest drive ever.

Thankfully Monday was not her day to go.  We were afraid for the worst because her hips wouldn’t get up.  But an anti-inflamatory shot, and a little bit of rest later she was like her old self again.  If you saw her today you’d have no idea that just a few days ago we thought we were going to say goodbye to her.

This made me realize how much joy these weird little fur balls bring into my life. So here’s an open letter to my dogs.

Bailey and Wrigley,

First of all I want to say thank you.  Thank you for existing. I mean truly think about it, how many people can you say that about?  How many people can you say that simply their existence makes your life better?  Thank you for teaching me patience by being literally the worlds most hard headed and stubborn puppies, and thank you for growing out of the puppy phase.  Thank you for always greeting me at the door every time I come home with a wagging tail. Even if I just went to the mail box, you give me a reason to be excited to open my front door.  Thank you for your tail wags, and happy faces ready to celebrate with me anytime something good happens. But also thank you for your kind hearts and senses that know when things aren’t okay, your head on my lap when I’m sad and your listening ear are just what I need to feel better.  You may not understand my words, but you know my heart and when it’s sad, you understand.   Sometimes you don’t need advice, just someone who knows how to be there when things aren't okay.  Thank you for always being  ready to go on an adventure whether it's going for a walk, or going “bye bye” in the car, and you remind me to take joy in the small things, and that getting fresh air is good for the soul.   Thank you for always bringing a smile to the face of everyone who meets you.  When we go for walks or someone comes over, you’re the worlds greatest greeting committee.  Thank you for your loyalty.  You have never left my side, and I’ll never leave yours.

And lastly thank you for all the laughs, snuggles, and unconditional love.

May you guys always know how much joy you’ve filled my soul with.
