The marching band season started back in July when students attended sweltering hot week-long camps where they started the process of learning their 2023 programs. The season has already come to an end for many bands in Southwestern Indiana, but for a select few, the goal of winning a state championship is still within reach.

Following the recent semi-state competitions, we now know that seven area bands have earned the right to compete for the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) state championship. These talented students will take the field and toot their horns one final, hoping to beat out bands from all over the Hoosier state. There is a total of 40 bands competing at state, and seven of them are from Southwestern Indiana. That is a pretty great representation.
