It's the holiday season, and that means a lot more time in the car. I don't know about you, but does it seem like all of the manhole covers are an inch or two below the surface of the pavement anymore? This is particularly true on First Avenue, and hitting one of these sunken manhole covers can literally rattle your bones and sound like you broke an axle.

It used to be just a few, but I have noticed more and more of them, and the worst for me is, by far, First Avenue. I have also noticed them on Mt. Pleasant between Hwy 41 and Old State Road on the North Side....why is that, and am I the only one that is even bothered by it?

When I travel in other towns, the manhole covers are almost always flat and even against the pavement. Some in Evansville are fine, but many more are sunken by as much as a couple if inches and hitting one of those at 45 - 50 mph is not fun and could do a number on your alignment.

The pavement over some of the railroad tracks are just as bad, like on First Avenue under the Lloyd Expressway. The railroad tracks have been a problem for a long time, but it just seems like the manhole cover situation is fairly recent and needs to be addressed. What do you think?
