Just in time for the holidays, a story of love and community. Earlier today, (Dec. 20) we asked for your help in finding two dogs that went missing from their home in Sturgis, KY. Zoey, a service dog for a Marine Veteran and her furry brother, Baxter got the help they needed and were found. Find out what happened and how they are doing.

After posting a blog with pics of the two dogs, later this afternoon, we received this text from Dawn....

Thank you so much!!! Headed to the vet with Baxter. He has a shot through his back leg, and Zoey is taking a bubble bath soaking.

When she was found, Zoey was very tired but happy to be home.

After a bubble bath, she was wrapped in her blanket and caught up on her sleep.

Dawn, the owner of Zoey and Baxter, told us......

She (Zoey) passed out eating after I dried her and wrapped her up in her blanket. She is exhausted.

She went on to give her very heartfelt thanks to the Tri-State....

I cannot put into words my gratefulness to everyone for everything. I know I don't deserve it, but as hard as this little dog works for me, she does. My heart is full.

We asked Dawn how they were found.

Baxter limped home several miles and Zoey was found not far from where a lady had spotted them this morning. A friend that was driving around looking for therm, spotted her and got her in the van. They waved down my father-in-law. Their vehicles smell like skunk. So does my in-laws. I feel terrible that all of these people out driving around and these saints are getting skunked. They won't let me pay for them to be cleaned either.

In all of this, so many people came together on an extremely cold day, driving raids and trails in the woods and fields looking for these extremely important family members. Selfless is when we reach beyond ourselves for someone else, but me, I will not forget this.

Both dogs are Evansville rescue dogs. Baxter was actually adopted first by Dawn's family after he was left in an abandoned apartment building as a puppy. Then, this one dog family had a need for a very special dog. Zoey was trained as a service dog and does twenty eight different tasks for Dawn.

After getting skunked and lost, Baxter was shot in the leg, but, according to the vet, he is expected to be just fine,

We will you keep you posted on Baxter's recovery. :-)
