Jon Prell

I have been at WKDQ for 13 years and have loved every minute of it. My career started in Southern California and I arrived in Evansville in 1994. I have three children that keep me very busy and the rare opportunity to go out and not have a six foot mouse serving your table is a rare and welcome treat. I love motorcycles and classic country and even host the WKDQ Country Classics show every Saturday from 6-10am. If I can I can ever play a song for you, let me know at wkdq.com.

New Study: Being Negative and Pessimistic Will Get You a Much Quicker Response to Your E-Mail

The old adage 'nice guys finish last' might actually have some truth to it if you believe a new study. How often have you sent an e-mail to someone hoping for a quick response, only to get a response much later than desired, assuming you even get a response. It could be the tone of your e-mail was too nice and positive...what...really? Yes.

What Is Cinco De Mayo, Really?

Some believe that Cinco De Mayo is Mexican Independence day, which it is not. Some believe that even though Cinco de Mayo is not an American holiday, it should be. Mexico first declared it's independence from Spain on September 15, 1810 and it took until 1821 to get all of the Spanish soldiers out of Mexico once and for all.

Cell Phones Don’t Belong in Meetings

I spend a lot of time in meetings throughout the week and I am astonished at the number of people who bring their cell phones to these meetings anymore. I have never said anything about this before, but lately I have noticed over the last year that I seem to be the ONLY one who doesn't bring their cell phone into any given meeting.

The Westboro Baptist Church Is a Hate Group Pure and Simple

I have had it up to here with the Westboro Baptist Church and their hate spewing ideologies. They were supposed to picket at the funeral today of George Jones in Nashville, but no word on whether or not they carried out that picket. These people picket at the funerals of fallen soldiers and celebrities and for what reason? I would like somebody to explain to me how they can call themselves a church?

Kroger Supermarkets Cuts Average Check-Out Lane Wait Time to 26 Seconds

Not to call anybody out here, but you know how long it takes to check-out at Wal-Mart and some grocery stores in general. Wal-Mart always seems to only ,literally, have just a few lanes open at peak traffic times and it can be absolutely exasperating. Kroger Supermarkets has solved that problem with infrared cameras -- the same cameras used for tracking people by law enforcement and the military.

Would You Tattoo Your Company’s Logo On Your Body for a 15% Raise?

If your company came to you and said they would give you a 15% raise if you got the company's logo tattooed on your body, would you do it? Now, before you get all excited and scream yes, yes, yes, let's remember the average workplace raise is somewhere around 3% so, a 15% raise is five times bigger...are you with me? Lets also consider the fact that you might not have any tattoos and have no real interest in getting one and you feel very strongly about that.

New York Jets Release of Tim Tebow is Classless

We normally blog about sports stories that have some kind of local angle, if we blog about sports at all. Colts fans have no use for the New York Jets and the Jets are such a joke right now, their own fans could do without them. Yesterday, they released Tim Tebow in a way that was humiliating and completely disrespectful.

Jason Aldean Haters Need to Chill

Yesterday, we posted the story about Jason Aldean filing for divorce from his wife of 12 years, Jessica. First of all, let me say right off the bat that in no way shape or form am I going to defend Aldean in this post. Let me say that again, I am NOT defending Jason Aldean, but some of the things that are being said about him are very surprising.

Phobias Are Very Real and More Than Half of Us Suffer From a Serious Phobia

My wife and I live in a four-story downtown condo building and when the weather is nice we like to spend time on the roof, which is equipped with couches, chairs and a gas BBQ grill. Recently, we were up there with some friends and one one of my friends got a little too close to me near the rail and I backed away. He asked why I backed away and I told him I had a fear of people being too close to me in high places where plunging to the ground was a real possibility. He was surprised and said that kind of fear is all in your head.

Remembering George Jones: Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes Video

It is Saturday morning and we are in the middle of the WKDQ Country Classic Show. It's always tough to do  this show after we have lost one of the greats that made country music what it is today. As you are well aware, George Jones died yesterday at the age of 81. His farewell tour was just here in Evansville on March 23rd. Who knew it would be farewell for good when he left town.

Remembering George Jones: Alan Jackson Sings ‘Choices’ at the CMA Awards in 1999 in Rebellion

My emotions are running so high as I write this post since learning of George Jones' death. There will be much written and said about the greatest country singer of all time in the days and weeks ahead. I could write a book about how I feel right now and more important, what George Jones meant to country music and his everlasting impact on the genre. Instead, this post will be dedicated to a moment that brought Jones to tears in his living room in 1999.
