New Zaxby's Location Coming to Vincennes, Indiana

A Steak 'n Shake location in southern Indiana recently shuttered, but it looks like another popular chain will soon take its place.

Zaxbys Chicken Fingers & Buffalo Wings is one of my favorite fast food stops. The Chicken Finger Plate is my usual go-to meal, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't indulged in a heaping helping of BBQ sauced wings from time to time. The southern chain has a few locations scattered throughout the tri-state, including one in Evansville (1021 N Burkhardt Rd.), which opened in 2016. However, it now looks like another Southern Indiana city will soon welcome their first Zaxby's as well.

How Many Zaxby's Locations are in the United States?

Zaxby's is well-known for their famous "Chicken Fingerz" and wings, served up alongside a lineup of 12 signature sauces. According to the company's website, Zaxby's was founded in Statesboro, Georgia, in 1990 by Zach McLeroy and Tony Townley. Since then, the chicken chain has expanded to include over 600 restaurants in 19 states.

Statistics from the Word Population Review show most Zaxby's locations are in the south, with Georgia housing the most at a whopping 153 total restaurants. In recent years, more stops have opened throughout the Midwest. Indiana is currently home to seven locations, while Kentucky has 18 Zaxby's locales.

Is Zaxby's Coming to Vincennes, Indiana?

In August 2024, Steak 'n Shake shut down operations in Vincennes, Indiana. Many who saw the article on Facebook took to the comments to dispel their frustrations. I'll be the first to admit I was bummed to see it close, until I started thinking about some other possible replacements. One commentor noted they would like to see a Chick-fil-A in that spot, but it was a different comment that really caught my eye. Another commentor indicated that the Steak 'n Shake location would soon be home to a new Zaxby's, which was initially announced in December 2023.

On August 13, 2024, I contacted Zaxby’s Franchising LLC to see if the rumor was true. They were quick to respond and noted they would be in touch when they had more information to share. On August 21, 2024, Senior Manager of Digital Activation Evan Connors confirmed that the new Zaxby's would be located in the old Steak 'n Shake building at 1277 S. Hart Street Rd.

Details surrounding the restaurant opening have yet to be announced. However, Connors did note that construction would begin at the end of 2024, ahead of a 2025 opening. I, for one, am absolutely stoked. I travel to Vincennes at least once a week to visit friends, so it's safe to say I'll probably be one of the first customers in line. Stay tuned for more updates.
