“Win What You Want” Winner Makes Other Contestants Emotional

When Jay Schroeder registered for his prize in the Win What You Want contest from Turley Manufacturing Jewelers, he could have had no idea of how emotional he'd be if he won.  He also had no idea he'd bring several other contestants to tears with his story.  Jay's request was to get his truck fixed up, but this wasn't just any truck as Jay writes in his entry...

All i would like is to have my fathers truck fixed up. See my father passed back in 2004 from cancer, and the only thing i have of his is his truck. See my father was a very diff. kinda guy, and so was his taste in trucks, he left me his so called "toy". It is a 1991 Chevy S-10 4x4 blazer. Ive gotten almost all of it fixed, put in a new motor, transmision, rear end, hell even had to replace the gas tank because there were holes rusted in it. All that is left is to rebuild the front end and needs some minor body work and a paint job. most of the work i did my self, but now i am down to just the one truck now so i am forced to drive it back and forth to work, and i do not really have the time nor the funds to fix it up the rest of the way.

I detected a bit of sentimentality when I first read the entry, but it really sunk in how much it meant to him when I called him to tell him he was a qualifier.  At Turley Manufacturing Jewelers, we conducted a random drawing to determine the grand prize winner, and when Jay grabbed the winning envelope, his hand began to shake.  After he told his story in a cracking voice, many runners-up in the contest commented that he was "supposed to win" and that "he deserved it."  As many of these events I have been a part of, this was the first time I've seen a reaction like this.  It was a wonderful scene.  The comments continued to pour in via Facebook over the weekend...

Laura Buher- Thanks to WKDQ for a fun time on Saturday at Turley Mfg. and the Win What You Want Contest. Congrats. to the young man who is getting his deceased father's truck repaired. Even though I didn't win, thanks to the crew at WKDQ for a nice event.

Lacey Perry LaVarier-Congras to the winner of the win what you want! It was a great game and I didnt win but, outta all the prizes that was the most deserving!

Tracy Clark Reese-Standing beside a stranger and hearing his story today at Turley Jewelers brought tears to my eyes! Seeing him so overcome with joy when he drew his own envelope was very touching, he truly deserved to win! Congrats Jay!
