Tax season is almost upon us, and there are a few places that you can go to get your taxes done for free in the Evansville area in 2024.
The deadline to file your taxes is April 15, 2024. You never want to put off your taxes until the last minute for several reasons, but for many, the most important reason is that they could really use that tax refund check. Times are hard, and the cost of living is constantly rising. For many, it's hard to afford to file their taxes on top of other bills they have to pay to stay afloat. In some cases, filing your taxes could cost folks a few hundred dollars. That's money that you might not necessarily have. However, there are resources here in the Evansville area to help you in that department to file your taxes for free.

The Salvation Army of Evansville, Serving Warrick & Vanderburgh Counties recently posted on Facebook regarding places where you can have your taxes completed for free. It's a resource that I am sure many are unaware of. It's called the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, and according to United Way of Southwestern Indiana:

The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program offers free tax preparation and e-filing services to individuals and families with an annual household income at or below $64,000 in 2023, persons with disabilities, and those who are 60 years of age and older.

VITA tax preparers are certified by the IRS to ensure that clients receive all eligible Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC) and Child Tax Credits. In addition, clients save money by not having to pay fees associated with tax preparation. Through the VITA program, we help hard-working individuals and families in our community take advantage of their tax dollars and reinvest their returns back into Southwestern Indiana.

If this sounds like a program that you or someone you know might be eligible for, there are several locations here in the Evansville area in which you can take advantage of filing your taxes for free.
