Walmart Launches New Brand: Here’s What They’re Selling in Indiana
We all have our own opinions about the retail giant known as Walmart, but let's be honest, Walmart has come in clutch on a number of occasions. After all, where else can you get new tires while buying a power drill, groceries, and picking up a prescription? Sure, the self-checkouts can be annoying, and some of the carts may have horrendous-sounding wheels, but all in all, it's not a terrible place to go if you need to get an assortment of very different items at one stop.
When my family shops at Walmart, we tend to buy the items that fall under their "Great Value" brand, which has been around for about 30 years. It's essentially just the generic version of your favorite product, and is similar to Kroger's store brand, or even Dollar General's "Clover Valley" products. However, Walmart just announced plans to launch yet another label with an emphasis on providing more affordable premium products. In essence, it sounds like the major retailer is taking a stab at selling some healthier options, at a slightly lower cost than completing name-brands.
According to CBS News, Walmart is rolling out about 300 new products to be sold under the name "Bettergoods." The items will encompass frozen and dairy products, along with a variety of snacks, beverages, pasta, soups, and other consumables. The New York Times reported that about 70% of these products will cost less than $5 and will include several plant-based options. Walmart executives said they weren't necessarily marketing the brand to higher income earners, but that the new goods would probably appeal to that crowd.
The new items are supposed to contain "elevated ingredients," which Walmart indicates will make healthier alternatives more accessible to the average grocery shopper. I'm personally curious as to how different these items will be from the Great Value items sold with that purple "organic" label, which are much more costly than their counterparts. Some of these new "Bettergoods" products are already being sold online and in select stores, but should be available in all stores by the end of the year. Will you be giving them a try?
