A recent interview by Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody director, Dexter Fletcher, unearthed a neat little nugget of what was nearly a compelling cameo with ties here to the Tri-State!

According to SlashFilm.com, Fletcher considered connecting his two musician-inspired biopics into somewhat of a cinematic universe by having University of Evansville graduate Rami Malek briefly reprise his role as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury from Bohemian Rhapsody in the Elton John movie, Rocketman!

Fletcher considered a brief cameo in restaurant scene which starred Taron Egerton as Elton John eating with his mother.  The character would look over at a nearby table, and notice his manager (John Reid, portrayed in BOTH films by Aiden Gillan) sitting with Freddie, as he managed both Queen and Elton John.  Dexter Fletcher ultimately decided against it because, quote, "it would’ve been a little too knowing…I’m not looking to set out to make a cinematic universe!”
