You may or may not be surprised by these three Indiana cities being ranked among the safest in the United States.

When you think of Indiana overall, you don't really associate it with crime. Sure, criminal acts happen all of the time, but that's not typically the stereotype that goes with Indiana. I mean Indiana isn't even one of the top ten most dangerous states in the country. That being said, we still see so much on the news about crime, and the increasing amounts of criminal activity across the state. It makes you stop and take a look at your area and wonder how safe it actually is. Well, as it turns out, if you live in one of these Indiana cities, you are in luck when it comes to safety because they rank among the safest in the entire country.

WalletHub just released its annual report of the safest cities in the United States. To determine where Americans can feel most secure, WalletHub compared more than 180 cities across 41 key safety indicators. Their data set ranges from traffic fatalities and assaults per capita to the unemployment rate and the percentage of the population that is uninsured. Out of all 180 cities on this list, only two of those cities are found in Indiana.

Two Indiana Cities Named Among the Safest in the Country

According to WalletHub, the safest city in the country is South Burlington, Vermont. When it comes to Indiana cities on this list, none cracked the top twenty. However, the safest city in Indiana, according to this report, is the 42nd safest city in the county. That happens to be none other than Fort Wayne. The northern Indiana city received a Home & Community Safety Rank of 42, a Rank Natural-Disaster Risk Rank of 32, and a Financial Safety Rank of 114.

The only other Indiana city to make this list was Indianapolis. The capital city came in at 128th on the list. Indianapolis received a Home & Community Safety Rank of 134, a Natural-Disaster Risk Rank of 33, and a Financial Safety Rank of 131.

I found these rankings interesting because earlier this year, another report that found the safest cities in the United States included three Indiana cities, but none of them were the two cities mentioned in this report. You can find out more about those cities by clicking here. Which report do you think is more accurate about the safest cities in Indiana?
