I can't describe how amazing it was during my recent visit to the National Museum of the US Air Force at the Wright Patterson AFB near Dayton, OH.  My brother, who works for the US Air Force Intelligence, even took the day off to go with me and Mike on this tour.  It gives you a whole new perspective and respect for our US military.  The drive is only about 4 1/2 hours from Newburgh/Evansville. It's absolutely free - with free parking and free wifi.
The museum just opened a 4th building in June 2016, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to see all the aircraft from the early years to today, the presidential gallery, the space shuttle exhibit, the missile gallery, and more.  It's definitely worth the drive and makes for a great family trip.
