Will Southern Indiana Have a White Christmas This Year?
It's been thirteen years since the Evansville, Indiana area saw a white Christmas. Based on the odds and past weather stats, a white Christmas in Southern Indiana might be just a dream in 2023.
A Dusting Won't Count
I'm sure that we have had some frosty Christmas mornings, and maybe even a few flurries in the air since 2010. For the snow to count as an actual 'White Christmas', there has to be at least one inch of snow on December 25.
Temperature Plays a Huge Part
According to the National Weather Service, the temperatures probably won't be cold enough to snow on Christmas day. They are predicting above-normal temperatures for our area, at least through December 24. The normal temperature for Southern Indiana in late December is 42 degrees.
The forecast outlook from the National Weather Service does not include December 25, so there could be a Christmas miracle!
Did Southern Indiana Have a White Christmas in 2022?
It might seem like we had a white Christmas in the Evansville area last year. A quick check at Certified Snowfall Totals shows that it snowed on December 26, 2022. So close.
What Does The Farmer's Almanac Predict?
The Farmer's Almanac is known for publishing long-range forecasts. So, I took a look at what their experts are saying about Southern Indiana having a white Christmas in 2023. December 22 through December 25 is predicted to be rainy with milder temperatures.
If we look at December 26 through December 31, The Farmer's Almanac is predicting colder and snowy conditions.
I still think it's possible that Southern Indiana could see a white Christmas, but it would have to be a Christmas miracle.
