The oldest bar in the state of Indiana has new owners.

The Slippery Noodle

The Slippery Noodle Inn sits on the same corner in downtown Indianapolis that it has occupied since it was first established in 1850. The bar has a bit of a checkered history that involves murder, a brothel, and American gangster, John Dillinger but one thing that has stayed the same is that it has continued its operations.

Changes at the Slippery Noodle

After nearly 200 years, the oldest bar in Indiana has gone through a number of name changes, as well as owners. Over the last 60 years, the business has belonged to the Yeagy family, according to the Indiana Business Journal, before being sold to its new owners this week.

Jason Amonett, who has owned multiple bars on South Meridian Street, and Sean Lothridge, a liquor industry executive, completed their purchase of the Slippery Noodle Inn, 372 S. Meridian St., on Wednesday.

Carol Yeagy became sole owner of the bar and restaurant after the 2020 death of her husband, Hal Yeagy. The sale to Amonett and Lothridge means the Slippery Noodle Inn is now owned by someone outside of the Yeagy family for the first time in 60 years.

What's Next for the Slippery Noodle

Operating as a music venue for blues since the mid-1980s, the new owners say that we can expect to still experience live music at the Slippery Noodle, but they told the IBJ that patrons may see more country and southern rock acts in the bar which spans a massive 13,000 square feet.
