The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is embarking on a comprehensive testing initiative for the US-41 Southbound Twin Bridge over the Ohio River, beginning on Monday, September 25, 2023, and extending through November 18, 2023.

This inspection will require single-lane closures on the bridge

In preparation for these closures, digital message signs have been strategically placed along US-41 South to inform motorists well in advance of the upcoming work. During this period, one of the two lanes on the US-41 Southbound Bridge will be closed to facilitate the inspection process.

Truck Traffic

To facilitate the equipment required for testing on the bridge, KYTC will temporarily impose restrictions on truck traffic, allowing a maximum width of 12 feet. Wide loads will be prohibited during the testing period to ensure the safety of both the inspection team and motorists.

Be Prepared to Stop

You can expect the traffic moving into Henderson from Evansville to be slow-going during the inspection period.

When was the last time the bridge was inspected?

The most recent inspection of the US 41 Southbound Bridge was completed in August 2022, revealing no critical findings for the bridge, which was originally constructed in 1965. However, the forthcoming inspection is of a more specialized nature, encompassing tasks such as paint removal, testing hundreds of welds, and replacing primer to ensure the bridge's long-term safety and reliability.

Leave Early!

Motorists in the region are advised to anticipate delays and traffic backups because of the lane closures and traffic restrictions as KYTC diligently works to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the US-41 Southbound Twin Bridge over the Ohio River.
