Rare Cut of Harry Potter Film Gets First U.S. Screening in Indiana
One movie theater in Indiana is hosting a Harry Potter marathon event over Valentine's Day weekend, featuring a special version of the first film.
I've been a Harry Potter fan since the first films were released on VHS in the early 2000s. I read through the books in elementary school and saw several of the later films in theaters when I was old enough for the PG-13 rating. The series is a fun escape for anyone looking to immerse themselves in a world of magic and fantasy. Whether you love the books, the movies, or both, there's one event you're definitely going to want to keep on your radar. In partnership with Fathom Events, an AMC theater in Indiana will be screening Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 3D for the very first time in the United States.
Harry Potter Film Editions: Sorcerer's Stone vs. Philosopher's Stone
The original title of J.K. Rowling's first Harry Potter book was actually titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. However, according to Comicbook.com, "Philosopher" was replaced with "Sorcerer" for the U.S. release because the head of publishing at Scholastic felt the title needed to be more connected to the world of magic. IMDb notes that both the book and film bear the original name in all non-U.S. releases. All scenes where the stone is mentioned by name were filmed accordingly to produce two different versions of the movie in order to adapt to the title. You can see some of the differences in the video above.
A Harry Potter Valentine’s Day Weekend
From Thursday, February 13th through Sunday, February 16th, AMC Perry Crossing in Plainfield, Indiana, will be screening the first four Harry Potter films, beginning with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone at 4 p.m. Eastern on Thursday. Later that evening, the UK version of the film will be screened in 3D. Nearby stores in the plaza will also be selling Harry Potter-themed treats and trinkets all weekend. Additionally, there is a Barnes & Noble located within Perry Crossing if you'd like to snag a Harry Potter book or two. This magical weekend is open to couples and singles alike.
