This Social Media App Connects You Directly to People in Your Neighborhood
Social media is everywhere, but one app is very popular because of just HOW hyper-local it is. It gets right down to the neighborhood, and you can find us there too!
Social Media Connects Communities
There's no denying the power of social media and the way that it has connected communities over the past couple of decades. Just think of how many times, when scrolling through social media, you've seen missing person or missing pet posts. Social media is so fast that word can spread quicker than wildfire, and it's a great tool to utilize and immediately get out urgent information.

It's also a way to stay in the loop about what's happening in your community. Everything from the latest local news story to different events happening around your town can be found on social media. This is just a small example of the power social media has. One social media company has decided to narrow the playing field by joining up with neighborhoods across the country, where you can join the app and instantly be in the know about what is happening in your own neighborhood.
The Hyper-Local Nexdoor App
I know you've probably already heard of Nextdoor, but there are still some neighborhoods locally that haven't. The only reason I know about it is because I got a postcard in the mail one day telling me my neighborhood was on the app. Wild, right?! So I joined to see what it was all about, and I was actually really impressed with just how incredibly localized to "you" the app is.
The fact that Nextdoor is a hyper-local social media website makes it really unique, because you have to belong to a Nextdoor neighborhood to join. According to Nextdoor, they currently work with more than 300,000 neighborhoods, so there's a good chance your neighborhood is among them! But if it isn't, you can sign your neighborhood up.

Here's What I Mean By Hyper-Local
So what's neat is you can set up an account with your address, and your feed will automatically generate with people in your neighborhood/area of town. This is super handy for recommendations for things like contractors, etc. It's also handy for concerning situations, like one time, we had a transformer blow near us. It didn't take out our electricity, but it did make a loud boom and flash that startled me and my dogs. I immediately went onto Nextdoor, and sure enough, a neighbor had posted about it, and a couple of streets over was without power. It was nice to have that information quickly.
I've also had neighbors share things like yard sales or state that they were having a graduation open house and that the street might be a bit busier than usual. This kind of information is really handy to have, so the fact that Nextdoor can get down to this hyper-local level is very helpful! And what's nice, too, is that your address isn't shared, just your general area.
