Mark Your Calendar: Shop Tax-Free in Tennessee This July

Tennessee's traditional sales tax holiday on clothing, school supplies, and computers is coming up this July so you can save some money on back-to-school shopping whether you are a resident or not.

I know, the kids just wrapped up the school year, and going back to school is the last thing on their minds. However, you and I both know that summer break will be over before you know it. So, it's never a bad time to start planning your back-to-school shopping. Of course, you will need some new school supplies and clothes for those growing kids. That can be pretty expensive. So, that's why I wanted to give you a heads up about one weekend in July when you can go to Tennessee because you can shop TAX-FREE!

Shop Tax-Free in Tennessee This July

The State of Tennessee is offering a tax-free holiday one weekend in July on several items. There's a tax holiday on clothing, school supplies, and computers that begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024, and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
During this time clothing, school supplies, and computers may be purchased tax-free. Certain restrictions apply. Items sold online are also eligible. Items must be purchased for personal use, not for business or trade, according to the Tennesee Department of Revenue.

Now, of course, there are some exemptions, which I will get into in a minute. Most large retailers like Walmart, Amazon, & Target will also be participating in this tax-free weekend, That means you can shop online tax-free if you are located in one of these states. Exempt items sold online are also eligible. Items must be purchased for personal use, not for business or trade. However, if you aren't a resident of Tennessee, you can still take the trip there to take advantage of these deals in-store.
