World Cup Fans are Overwhelmed with American Awesomeness

The World Cup has taken over North America, with games being played in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. As foreigners have invaded our country, it's been incredibly entertaining to see what they find fascinating here in the States. From the size of our stadiums and serving sizes to chugging ranch dressing and calling Taco Bell the holy land, soccer fans around the world have been loving the United States. They can't believe that Buccee's are gas stations, they believe you can purchase your whole life at Costco, and the things they've said about Waffle House have been borderline adult-only love letters. This got me thinking, I bet they would love some of the local staples from the tri-state! Here are eight local staples I think foreigners would freak for.

Lic's Choco Creams

I can hear them now, "You mean to say they put ice cream inside of chocolate?" Foreigners would lose their minds over these tiny little balls of deliciousness. Lic's Choco Creams are small balls of vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, and butter pecan ice cream, dipped in chocolate. They are beyond amazing. If the foreigners could handle the Choco Creams, I guarantee you they'd slap us silly after trying the coconut ice cream or turtle pie.

The Log Inn

I'd say foreigners would freak out for the fried chicken, but I think they would absolutely love everything about The Log Inn! From the family-style dinner service to the best of home cooking you can find, anyone visiting the tri-state area would want to move into this establishment. I could absolutely see the British fans asking to swim in the gravy boat.

Turoni's Pizza

While I wanted to say Pizza Chef pizza here (because I'm biased and this is my favorite), the truth is, Turoni's is the staple everyone knows. Their unique pie creations have been feeding the tri-state for decades, and this little slice of our hometown would be a fun-filled and satisfying visit for any traveling soccer fan. Not to mention, these foreigners would feel right at home with a beer flight from Turoni's Brewery.

Moonlight BBQ

Any foreigner would be crazy not to try barbecue while visiting our fine country. It might as well be the national food of America, because nothing screams America like some good old pulled pork or brisket. I would be proud to escort a group of travelers to Moonlight BBQ to experience some of the best eating money can buy. On a side note, the ambiance of this historic landmark is very personal for me. Over the years, my family has had several gatherings here, which now serve as memories of a time when the whole family gathered. Multiple rooms, full of buffet options, all focused on the cuisine of the South and the tri-state. Not to mention, how fun would it be to explain mutton to them?

The Hilltop Inn Brain Sandwich

Picture it: you sit down at the table, open the menu, and tell your foreign friends, "I think I'll have the pork brain today." I'm sure they won't question that at all. Nothing says tri-state quite like this deep-fried delicacy. Most think you can only get this during the Fall Festival, but The Hilltop Inn carries the popular regional sandwich year-round.

Donut Bank Donuts and Those Cookies

I'm obviously biased, having been a real-life Donut Bank Donut Hole in the past, but you can't tell me these aren't some of the best handmade doughnuts you've ever had. The basics of donuts, with that Donut Bank twist, my absolute favorite part about Donut Bank is the consistency! I know exactly what I'm getting each time I order. Old-fashioned cake donuts, sour cream donuts, the classic long johns, tiger tails, and so much more. Don't forget the coffee! Any of these donuts would surely have the foreigners begging for more. However, I bet one of the most ordered items at Donut Bank is the decorated iced butter cookie. Unique to Donut Bank, I bet the Brits would love to take these home to have with their afternoon tea.

Stephen Libs Turtles

I wonder if they make turtles in other countries, given I was thoroughly surprised to find out they do not have ranch dressing. I don't think they could handle the magic of these little chocolate, caramel, and pecan clusters. While the turtles would be my obvious front runner, the amount of delicious chocolate treats Stephen Libs has to offer is endless. I'm literally drooling just thinking about the softness of the milk chocolate melting in my mouth. This would have to be a top priority on the list.

G.D. Ritzy's Burger and Fries

When you think of the history of food, your mind at some point makes a pit stop at a classic diner. Lucky for us tri-staters, we have that classic diner right at our fingertips at any time with G.D. Ritzy's! Every time I take a bite of that classic cheeseburger and those shoestring fries, I feel like I'm literally taking a bite out of the 50's. When I taste that fresh, juicy burger patty, I'm five seconds from twirling my poodle skirt on the dance floor. That nostalgia might be too much for international soccer fans.
