Kentucky Cowboy Attempts to Outrun Police… on His Mule
It sounds like a Mad Lib, but it actually happened in the Bluegrass State.
What Happens on the Internet...Stays on the Internet
Do you remember when the phrase was "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?" Unfortunately, these days with cameras in everyone's pocket and even glasses with cameras on them (the Ray-Ban Meta glasses) the phrase has become "what happens in Vegas, will be recorded and posted online." And as funny as that sounds, it's pretty much true! You can hear about a huge news story, and within minutes see first-hand videos of that news story online. It's both cool and terrifying.
However, sometimes moments get immortalized on the internet that aren't folks' finest hours, that's what happened to one Kentucky "cowboy."
Kentucky Cowboy Attempts to Outrun the Cops On His Mule
That headline sounds like a Mad Lib gone awry, but it's real. Recently I was scrolling online, and I saw a video of a guy on a mule hightailing it with a line of police cars behind him. The man even tips his hat to the person recording, which I think makes the video even funnier. So what happened? When reading through the comments people were saying this was a real news story from Murray, Kentucky, so I did some digging.
Ole Jonathan is Causing Trouble in Murray on His Mule
The video in question (see the video below) is from December and shows 39-year-old Jonathan Mason on a mule fleeing from the cops. It turns out Jonathan was causing some trouble at a local bar where the police were called when he refused to leave. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and had ridden his mule to the bar. So he took off on his mule, unfortunately for him mules are not faster than cars, so it was only a matter of time for the police to catch up with him. WPSD says that the mule was stabled and Jonathan was taken away to the Calloway County Jail.
That's Not All, He was Arrested AGAIN 2 Days Later
This isn't even the only time ole Jonathan tried to escape the police on his mule, according to WPSD, he was arrested again the following Monday. There were reports of a man riding a mule in the street, and the man seemed intoxicated. The cops quickly realized it was Jonathan again, and after a short (and no viral) chase, he was taken back into custody. This time, however, he was also slapped with animal cruelty charges as he was seen whipping the mule an excessive amount. You can read the full story and see Jonathan's mugshot, here.
