Whether you camp by way of a tent, RV or cabin rental autumn makes for a great time of year for a weekend camping trip. The foliage is turning beautiful colors as the last hurrah before the barren cold months of winter and temperatures have started to drop. I have discovered several state campgrounds offering fun Halloween activities for campers during October leading up to Halloween Day itself.

Barren River Lake State Resort Park

Hosting a Halloween Spook out on the weekends of October 15th and 22nd come to camp at Barren River Lake and enjoy live music, a bar, grill, trick or treating through the campground, and costume contests.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Campground a Mammoth Cave National Park

  • Fright night Halloween Weekend October 21st- October 23rd from 10 am to 4 pm and will include arts and crafts, pumpkin carving, campsite/cabin decorating contest, trick or treating and so much more!
  • Last Blast Monster Mash Halloween Weekend! October 28th- October 30th from 10 am to 4 pm and will include the same fun happenings from the weekend prior!

 

Land Between the Lakes

Taking place at the Woodlands Nature Station at LBL is the return of a Hogwarts Howl-O-Ween: The Sorcerer's Stone on Saturday October 22nd from 10am to 4 pm!  Costumes are encouraged, also don't forget to dress in your Hogwarts house colors! For more information checkout the link below.

 

Big Bone Lick State Park

Every weekend in October you can find haunted mini golf at this state park. It is $5.00 per player and is considered appropriate for all ages.

 

John James Audubon State Park

Owl-O-Ween night is taking place on Saturday October 22nd from 6-9 pm. This event is for ages 8 and up and has a $15 admission fee. Pre-register for this event by emailing  lisa.hoffman@ky.gov or by calling 502-782-9727.

 

Nolin Lake State Park

All October long Nolin Lake is hosting an escape room, to participate call 270-286-4240 or go to the campground registration booth to book your day and time. Groups of up to 8 and $10 per person. Sure to be a spooky good time!

Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site

Paranormal investigating and ghost stories on the battlefield, October 15th and 29th. Learn about the battle as we enter into the 160th anniversary of the battle and hear of the horrific tales of wars aftermath with park manager Bryan Bush. Tickets are $10/adult $5/child (10 –17). No walk-in availability.  Tickets can be purchased by calling 859-332-8631. Tour is from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
