The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (EVPL) is investing a lot of time and money into renovating its eight locations as part of its Master Facilities Plan. And we’re not talking about just a fresh coat of paint and some new light bulbs. We’re talking about big-time projects that force a branch to close for several weeks.

EVPL Red Bank Undergoing Full Rebuild

The Red Bank location closed back in December 2025 for what is, essentially, a complete demolition and rebuild. As you can imagine, that kind of project takes a long time, but luckily, Westside residents now have a temporary library to use in the meantime. Take a minute to check out the renderings of what the new building might look like.

Where To Find EVPL Red Bank Express

EVPL Red Bank Express will be located at 4905 University Drive – the former Liberty Federal Credit Union building, which is conveniently located right next door to the former Red Bank branch.

The temporary library space will be opening in the next few weeks and will offer many of the same services and resources you’re used to while the brand-new EVPL Red Bank location is being built.

Right now, EVPL staff are busy getting the space ready for library operations. Once that work wraps up, they’ll move part of the Red Bank collection into the temporary spot so you’ll still have access to plenty of materials.

In the meantime, if you need to return books or other items, there’s already a drop box available at EVPL Red Bank Express, located behind the building in the covered drive-thru.

A Long Overdue Upgrade For Red Bank

That location first opened in 1991 and didn’t have any renovations until 2006. After 20 years, I guess it was due for an upgrade, and I can’t wait to see the new and improved, bigger and better EVPL Red Bank branch!
