More People are Trying a Plant-Based Lifestyle

Have you ever thought about which cities are the best for vegans and vegetarians? Honestly, I hadn’t either – but the folks at WalletHub think about it, at least once a year. And with more and more Americans leaning toward plant-based diets, I guess that’s important information for those looking to live that lifestyle.

America's Top Cities for Vegans and Vegetarians

They ranked the 100 biggest U.S. cities using three big factors: affordability (because no one wants to spend their whole paycheck on tofu), diversity and accessibility (like restaurants with vegan and vegetarian options or even cooking classes), and lifestyle (think produce consumption and fun vegan festivals).

Kentucky Makes Its Mark in the Top 20!

As you might guess, a lot of the top cities are out west - places like Portland, Los Angeles, and San Francisco! But here’s the fun surprise: Kentucky made a splash on the list by landing in the top 20! Lexington snagged the #14 spot overall, making it one of the most vegan- and vegetarian-friendly cities in the entire country. And if you’re road-tripping east across the Bluegrass State, you’ll also roll through Louisville, which landed at #34. Not too shabby, right?

What’s fueling the trend? For one, more restaurants – including fast-food chains – are embracing plant-based options. Plus, with meat prices climbing faster than fruits and veggies, many people are discovering that vegetarian meals can be both healthier and easier on the wallet.
