That’s a Mighty Big Lollipop and It’s Only 5.5 Hours From Owensboro
I think the first time I had a Dum-Dum lollipop or is it a sucker? I was at my pediatrician's office and/or at the bank drive-thru where there was a large jar of the famous candy for the kids with their parents.
My favorite Dum-Dums are orange, cherry, and mystery flavors. Eh, I'll take a lemon one if that's all that's left. Root-beer? In any form, no. The mystery flavor isn't popular, but I'm willing to take the chance. Thankfully, my palette has broadened since 1979.
I happened upon the photo of this giant water tower in the shape of giant Dum-Dums last week and since a lot of tourists go hunting for the "largest" this or that, I had to find out where this glorious tower was. It turns out, it's a little over five and a half hours from Owensboro in northwest Ohio in a town called Bryan, which is an hour away from Toledo.
Bryan is also the home of the Dum-Dum creator, Spangler Candy. Other candies you may know from Spangler include Bit-O-Honey, Necco Wafers, Candy Hearts (Sweethearts), Circus Peanuts, and Starburst Pops.
Here's what's cool, if you want to see the tower and tour Spangler CandyWorld, general admission is always FREE! There are all types of games, photo ops, and activities for the kids, a theater presentation that shows how the candy is made, and yep, there's plenty of candy to go around.
