Indiana Is Home To The World’s Largest Ball Of Paint
Tucked away in central Indiana is one of the most unexpectedly delightful roadside attractions you will ever encounter. It's so large, it has its own building. It also has its own parking lot.
Located in Alexandria, the World’s Largest Ball of Paint is exactly what it sounds like, and somehow even more impressive in person.
How A Single Baseball Became A Global Attraction
The World’s Largest Ball of Paint was started in 1997 by Michael Carmichael and his son. On January 1 of that year, Michael’s son dipped a baseball into blue house paint. That one simple act kicked off what would become a decades-long project.

Today, the ball has accumulated more than 30,000 coats of paint, with visitors from around the world stopping in Alexandria to add their own layer.
Yes, It Has Its Own Building
As the ball grew, it eventually outgrew just about everything else. It now lives inside its own structure, known as the Ball House, complete with a dedicated parking area for visitors.
According to a recent update from the Anderson Madison County Visitors Bureau, the ball currently weighs over 11,600 pounds. That is not a typo.

How Visitors Become Part Of The Ball
Visitors are encouraged to add a layer of paint in the color of their choosing. After contributing, guests can sign the walls inside the Ball House and are given a certificate commemorating their contribution to the World’s Largest Ball of Paint.
It is interactive, slightly absurd, and deeply charming in a way only the Midwest can truly pull off.
A World Record Worth Seeing
The World’s Largest Ball of Paint is officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, cementing its status as one of Indiana’s most unique attractions.
Admission is free, though donations are welcome and appreciated to help maintain the site.
How To Visit The World’s Largest Ball Of Paint
Visits are scheduled directly with the Carmichael family. Those interested can email WorldsLargestBOP@yahoo.com or call 765-724-4088 to arrange a visit and add their own layer of paint.
It is one of those places you cannot believe exists until you see it, and once you do, you will never forget it.
