Whether your kids love the outdoors or you just want them to learn some real-world skills, John James Audubon State Park has something pretty cool planned.

The park, located in Henderson, Kentucky, is hosting Youth and Children’s Survival Skills Workshops this March, giving kids ages 6 to 16 the chance to learn practical outdoor survival basics in a safe, hands-on environment.

Older kids ages 10 to 16 can attend on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from noon to 3 p.m. The cost for ages 10 to 16 is $15 per person.

Participants will learn important skills like what to pack for a hike, what to do if they get lost, how to find shelter, and even how to signal for help.

Survival Skills Workshop For Kids Ages 6 To 9

Younger adventurers ages 6 to 9 can take part on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from noon to 2:30 pm. The cost for younger kids is $12 per child.

Both workshops will meet at the Audubon Museum and will take place rain or shine.

While parents are welcome to stay and observe, this is designed as a drop-off, pick-up event to help kids build confidence and independence in the outdoors.

12 Excellent Reasons to Visit Henderson KY

I've always enjoyed Henderson KY. Its downtown has always been well-maintained, with lots of local businesses that have been in operation for years. But branch out away from Main Street and you'll see that the city and its namesake county have a lot to offer.
