Indiana’s Beloved Underground Sandwich Shop, Packed with IU Memorabilia to Close
This little underground sandwich shop is a popular stop for tourists. Unfortunately, it is closing, but there is hope if a buyer is found.
Nashville, Indiana
If you have never been to Nashville, Indiana you need to stop what you're doing and book a trip now. This quaint little town is packed full of fun things to do, gorgeous sights, and plenty of delicious food. Nashville is a gem of an Indiana small town, and is the perfect place to visit for a weekend getaway. This quaint town is full of delicious restaurants, unique stores, and plenty of sights to see. People travel from all over to visit Brown County, and Nashville is always a must-see when visiting the area.
One of the more unique dining experiences in Nashville can be had at Our Sandwich Place, a little underground no-frills sandwich shop that is jam-packed with IU memorabilia. Just open the door and before you even descend the stairs down to the restaurant, you'll be greeted with plenty of IU memorabilia.
Our Sandwich Place is an IU Fan's Dream!
Our Sandwich Place is located underground, beneath The Nashville House. This little sandwich place is exactly what it claims to be, just a small restaurant that serves mouthwatering sandwiches. Our Sandwich Place opened more than 50 years ago, in 1972.
According to Our Brown County, Our Sandwich Place opened around the time Coach Knight came to IU and began his legacy as an extremely popular (and controversial) figure in the sports world. That's when the owner began collecting IU, and Bob Knight sports memorabilia. Our Brown County says that every "nook and cranny, every available inch if wall space" is covered with IU memorabilia.
...every nook and cranny, every available inch of wall space in the small subterranean deli is covered with the memories of Coach Knight’s legendary career at Indiana University, as well as many other offbeat tidbits (a photo of Coach Knight as an Ohio State Buckeye; a large team photo of Larry Bird’s ISU team; and maybe a dozen signed basketballs commemorating various milestones.)
Unfortunately, the fate of Our Sandwich Place now hangs in the balance as they took to Facebook to announce they would be closing.
Our Sandwich Place Closing Doors, But There is Hope for the Future
On February 15th, Our Sandwich Place took to Facebook to announce that after an unfortunate accident where the owner ended up with a broken ankle that will cause them to be out of work for a few months, they made the hard decision to close the door on this chapter and say goodbye to Our Sandwich Place. However, there is hope for the future of this unique little shop.
The good news, is they are open to offers if anyone is interested in buying the business, memorabilia included. Here is what they had to say on Facebook:
We have had to make a hard decision. On January 19th, I broke my ankle in three places. Due to the recovery time on this, we have decided we will be closing our doors. We have loved serving everyone and getting to know all our wonderful customers over the years. This has been the most rewarding experience and we have loved serving and feeding everyone.
If anyone is interested in buying the restaurant, we will be collecting offers for a couple weeks. Please call 317-364-8767. The restaurant is turnkey and clean and ready to open. We have all equipment needed to open a restaurant, including commercial ice machine, fryers, grills, stove with oven, walk in freezer, prep tables and much more. Much of the memorabilia is one of a kind and almost all of the memorabilia is in amazing condition.
We would love for someone to buy all of the equipment and memorabilia and keep this amazing restaurant going, either here or in another location. It has been here for more than 40 years and we would love to see it continue. I am just not going to be able to work for 6 months to a year.
Thank you to all our wonderful customers.
