The year 2024 has been a tough one for many, with folks struggling to afford housing or groceries despite working well over 40 hours per week. So, just how much do you need to survive in Indiana, and does it fall within the average salary range?

According to ZipRecruiter, the average annual salary in Indiana is $49,020 as of November 2024. That works out to be about $23.57 an hour, which equals $942.69 a week or $4,085.00 a month. However, most salaries in the Hoosier State are actually much lower than that, ranging between $34,500.00 (25th percentile) and $60,143 (75th percentile) annually.

A living wage calculation for Indiana in 2024 reveals that a single person with no children would need to make at least $20.44 an hour in order to live somewhat comfortably. That said, the salary needed to maintain that same lifestyle with children is drastically higher: $35.67 an hour for one child, or $44.16 an hour for two children. So, in essence, you could make more or less doing the same job depending on where you live.

When it comes to the highest paying jobs in Indiana, it's no surprise they're mostly in the medical field. According to ZipRecruiter, the most lucrative jobs in the Hoosier State include positions in radiology, anesthesiology, and surgery.
