You don't have to live on the coast to enjoy great seafood. Indiana has one restaurant that is now ranked as the best place to get your fix.

Not every Hoosier is a fan of eating critters from the water, but for those of us who are, there’s good news. Indiana may not be known for seafood as much as unreasonably large pork tenderloins and buttered popcorn, but there is one local restaurant perfect for your craving. I’ve never been to this place, but after watching a video, I’m more than a little tempted to grab my car keys and go.

Let’s just say it: Indiana, in general, is far from the best place in the nation to get a snack from the sea. The three best states for seafood include Maine, Hawaii, and Washington. That last one may come as a surprise, but according to World Population Review, Washington state is a top contender for some of the best seafood dishes and ingredients in the country. So I suppose, if they can do it, so can we.

Last year, Cheapism named The Chubby Trout in Elkhart the best seafood restaurant in Indiana, but that locale has since been dethroned by another. While both menus feature some of the same offerings, this new No. 1 seafood spot also includes items both familiar to Hoosiers, and some maybe a little more adventurous. Keep scrolling to find out who the new king of seafood is in Indiana, according to World Population Review.

Where to Find the Best Seafood in Indiana in 2025

Caplinger's Fresh Catch is a seafood market and restaurant that has multiple locations around the Indianapolis area. It's been around since 2013, and the seafood is said to be of top quality. In fact, it's comparable to any product found in the coastal regions of the country. Caplinger's website notes that the seafood arrives daily, is handled professionally in-house, and sold at its tastiest.

As I was scrolling through the restaurant menu, there was an abundance of items that caught my eye. Some of the more notable ones include their Gatory Po'boy, Maryland-style crab cake, along with their Seafood Philly made with onions, peppers, shrimp, crab and lobster. However, like most Hoosier establishments, this one also features a pork tenderloin sandwich with your choice of fixins. I suppose that’s a good thing if you’re making the trip with someone who isn’t a fan of seafood.
