Howl O Ween at Oak Hill Cemetery is coming up this Saturday, and it's to raise money for a really good cause!

You can bring your pet to enjoy this one day event at Oak Hill Cemetery, where you can take a walk, and learn about some of the history. It is free, but a $5 donation for you and your dog is requested as the money goes to the Spirit Medical Fund.

Here's the info:

Come out and be a part of the fun and share this ONE Special Day with your four legged buddy and help a great cause. For 364 days of the year the cemetery does not permit dog owners to share the beauty of Oak Hill Cemetery and Arboretum with their pets. However, on this ONE day only, responsible pet owners are invited to come and spend the entire day at the cemetery with their four legged buddies. The suggested donation is $5 per pet owner to benefit the Spirit Medical Fund.

Walking will start at 3:00pm with a registration table located at the Veteran’s Plaza, followed by a Pet Historic Walking Tours at 3:15 and 4:15pm. The suggested donation to enter your pet is $5 with all proceeds benefiting the Spirit Medical Fund. At 5:00PM we will host a Pet Memorial Moment of Silence Ceremony to honor all pets lost within the past year near the lake just inside the main entrance. We encourage anyone who would like to memorialize the loss of their pet to join us at 5pm!

For questions, please contact Superintendent of Cemeteries, Chris Cooke, at 812-435-6045 or ccooke@evansville.in.gov.

About the Spirit Medical Fund:
A Caring Community Working Together

The SPIRIT MEDICAL FUND was established after a brave little dachshund mix, later named Spirit, survived a horrific ordeal of animal cruelty. Spirit was found at the Oak Hill Cemetery around Halloween 2000. She had been doused with gasoline, set on fire, and left to die. When found, she was close to death. Although she was in very poor health, she still had the will to live. In order for this to be possible, she needed costly medical treatments. The community reached out and provided us with the needed money. This was the beginning of the SPIRIT MEDICAL FUND.

The SPIRIT MEDICAL FUND assists with needed medical care for stray, homeless and abandoned animals that arrive at Evansville-Vanderburgh Animal Care & Control.

You can make monetary donations by mailing your donation to our shelter or by bringing it in personally. Our address is: Evansville Animal Care & Control, c/o SPIRIT MEDICAL FUND, 815 Uhlhorn Street, Evansville, IN 47710.

We also accept other donations such as: soap detergent, bleach, towels, clay cat litter, litter pans, dog and puppy food (canned or dry), cat and kitten food (canned or dry), dog shampoo, cat shampoo, collars, leashes and other animal related supplies.

We appreciate any assistance you may be able to provide. Your support helps us keep the SPIRIT MEDICAL FUND alive!
