You know, there was a brief moment back in 2019 that I thought I was conquering my fear of heights. I rode a four-story-tall roller coaster at the Mall of America in Minneapolis and thought I was making headway.

Yes, I realize that serious coaster enthusiasts reading this are having a good snicker. Oh well, bottom line...I was NOT making headway. I still have a long way to go before I tackle a legit award-winning thrill ride like the ones they have at Holiday World or Kentucky Kingdom.

And there's no telling if I'll EVER climb aboard a hot-air balloon.

HALLOWEEN HOT-AIR BALLOON RIDES

Whenever I see those festivals, I feel like that kid from A Christmas Story pressing his nose against the toy store window thinking he'll NEVER get that Red Ryder BB gun. But again, those festivals are wonderful events and just as much fun for us earthbound spectators.

In October, the balloons will be flying high over Louisville at the Halloween Balloon Glow, and it's much more than just the launch of several hot-air balloons. Here's what the 2019 extravaganza looked like:

HALLOWEEN BALLOON GLOW

Part of Louisville's Ultimate Halloween Fest, the Halloween Balloon Glow is moving to a new location for 2022--Lynn Family Stadium, the home field for the Louisville City soccer teams. The event is relocating from Pope Lick Park.

When those hot-air balloons ARE launched, they WILL be tethered. But guests will still be able to take in an aerial view of the stadium and the beautiful Louisville skyline. Here's a drone view over the stadium to give you some idea of what visitors will get to see:

IT'S ALL PART OF THE ULTIMATE HALLOWEEN FEST

The Ultimate Halloween Fest will stretch out over a period of several non-consecutive days. The balloon event will happen on October 27th and 28th, but there will be so much more.

Activities at Pope Lick Park will take place September 30th through October 22nd and November 4th and 5th. Those in Paristown will happen October 1st through the 22nd and October 28th through the 30th.

With fall fast approaching, and Halloween not too much farther down the line, I'm already getting in the mood.

Check that. We're talking Halloween; I'm already getting in the SPIRIT.
